Chinese Aircraft Carrier Shandong Navigates Taiwan Strait’s Median Line, Eliciting Swift Response from Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense

The Ministry of National Defense (MND) issued a statement on Monday, December 11, revealing that China’s Shandong aircraft carrier had been detected navigating down the median line of the Taiwan Strait.

According to the MND report released at 4:50 p.m., the Shandong’s carrier strike group sailed from north to south along the west side of the strategic waterway.

Utilizing joint intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance methods, Taiwan’s military closely monitored the movements of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels.

In response to the detected presence, the MND promptly dispatched military assets to assess, monitor, and respond accordingly.

The MND emphasized the critical importance of the security and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region for global development and stability.

They highlighted that such responsibility is shared by all parties in the region. The MND reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Taiwan’s interests and maintaining regional stability.

In its pledge, the Ministry stated that the nation’s military would continue to respond to potential threats and defend against any aggression.

The MND underlined their resolute stance with the principle of “preparing for war, not seeking war, and responding to war, not avoiding war.”

This latest incident raises tensions in the Taiwan Strait region, as geopolitical dynamics continue to evolve. The international community will be closely monitoring developments as both sides navigate the delicate balance of power in the Indo-Pacific.
