Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has voiced concerns about the resurgence of terrorism in the North East. He condemned the recent bomb attacks in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State, which led to multiple fatalities and injuries during a wedding ceremony in Tashan Mararaba, Gwoza town.
In a statement issued via his X handle on Sunday, Atiku described the suicide bombings as tragic and alarming. He criticized the current administration for its ineffective stance on combating terrorism, which he believes is undoing previous successes against insurgents.
Atiku urged the federal government to prevent the North East from falling back into the control of terrorists and becoming a hotspot for violence. He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s souls.
