The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather alert predicting heat stress and thunderstorms across Nigeria on Saturday. Released in Abuja, the Weather Report highlights soaring temperatures and the likelihood of heat stress in various regions, urging the public to take necessary precautions. NiMet advises staying well-hydrated and avoiding strenuous physical activities, particularly between 12 noon and 4 pm.
The agency emphasizes the importance of protective measures such as wearing shades and hats outdoors and ensuring infants are adequately seated to combat the effects of the heat. Morning thunderstorms are expected in coastal areas of Lagos, Niger, Kwara, and Kebbi states, while other regions will experience partly cloudy skies. Thunderstorms are forecasted in southern and north-central regions, including Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, and Kebbi states by afternoon and evening.
NiMet warns of strong winds preceding the rains in areas prone to thunderstorms, advising the public to take necessary precautions. Additionally, the agency urges airline operators to obtain updated weather reports to ensure the safety of their operations and passengers.
