The public hearing on the national minimum wage has started in the North Central region. It began at 11:25 am on Thursday. Festus Osifo, the President of the Trade Union Congress, chairs the committee overseeing this hearing.
Representatives from various sectors are present, including Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and governors’ representatives from Niger and Kwara states. They’ve gathered in Abuja for the occasion.
The committee was established following constitutional provisions and the National Minimum Wage Act 2019. Its mandate includes consulting stakeholders, considering economic dynamics, and recommending a practical minimum wage to the government.
