Olukoyede Reports EFCC’s Recovery of N60 Billion in 100 Days

In less than 100 days since assuming the position of Chairman at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede announced significant achievements. The anti-graft agency received a staggering number of over 5,000 fraud petitions during this period, showcasing the pervasive nature of financial malfeasance in the country. Remarkably, amidst this influx of complaints, the EFCC managed to recover a substantial sum of N60 billion in stolen funds.

Out of the multitude of petitions received, Olukoyede disclosed that the EFCC had already greenlit 3,000 cases for thorough investigation. This proactive approach underscores the agency’s commitment to diligently pursue allegations of corruption and financial impropriety. Such decisive actions aim not only to address individual instances of fraud but also to send a strong deterrent message to potential wrongdoers within the system.

Appointed by President Bola Tinubu on October 12, 2023, Olukoyede assumed leadership of the EFCC, succeeding Abdurasheed Bawa. His tenure commenced amidst a backdrop of heightened scrutiny and expectations, particularly in light of ongoing efforts to combat corruption in Nigeria. Despite the challenges inherited, Olukoyede’s tenure has seen notable successes, as evidenced by the substantial recoveries made within a relatively short span of time. Speaking at the 20th-anniversary lecture of the Human and Environmental Development Agenda Resources Centre in Lagos on Saturday, Olukoyede reiterated the EFCC’s unwavering commitment to its mandate, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration and support in the fight against financial crimes.
