2024 budget: Top-funded ministries list

The 2024 budget, which was approved by the National Assembly on Saturday, allocated the most funds to the Ministry of Defence – N1.3tn.

According to DWORLDGIST, the lawmakers passed an amended budget that was N1.2 trillion higher than the one proposed by President Bola Tinubu.

Abubakar Bichi, the House Committee on Appropriation Chairman, explained to the media that the reason for the increase was to cope with inflation and to reflect the revenue projections of the Government Owned Enterprises, GOEs.

DWORLDGIST also revealed the breakdown of the budget allocations for the different ministries and offices. The Ministry of Defence topped the list with N1.3tn, followed by the Ministry of Police Affairs with N869.121bn and the Ministry of Education with N857.134bn.

Other ministries and offices that received significant allocations were:

  • The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare – N667.577bn
  • The Ministry of Interior – N362.552bn
  • The Ministry of Youths – N201.467bn
  • The Office of the National Security Adviser – N199.763bn
  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs – N140.456bn
  • The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security – N110.248bn
  • The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation – N100.248bn
  • The Presidency – N97.913bn
