Several students at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, are rallying for donations to raise the N2 million ransom demanded for the release of their kidnapped peer, Miss Francisca Chioma. Chioma, a student of the Science Education Department, went missing on April 5 while en route to a burial ceremony. Despite efforts to contact her, there was no response, causing alarm among her peers and family.
The university’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed the incident and stated that security agencies were alerted, revealing that the kidnappers had contacted Chioma’s family and demanded the ransom. Initially set at N10 million, the ransom was negotiated down to N2 million, prompting Chioma’s friends to seek public support for donations to secure her release.
