Lagos Red Line Railway Project

President Bola Tinubu has made his presence known in the Ikeja area of Lagos State for the inauguration of the Lagos Red Line rail system.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu previously pledged in December 2023, during the unveiling of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line Ikeja Overpass, that the rail would be unveiled by Tinubu before the first quarter of 2024 concludes.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized that once operational, the Red Line rail is expected to accommodate approximately 500,000 passengers daily.

He stated, “The completion and official commissioning of this essential infrastructure mark the beginning of passenger operations for the Red Line, to be inaugurated by our esteemed President, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in the first quarter of next year. Over the past four and a half years of our administration, we have prioritized the implementation of our integrated transportation system under the traffic management and transportation pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S.+ agenda. As a result, we have delivered life-enhancing transport infrastructures that are making life easier for the average Lagosian.”

Sanwo-Olu further outlined that the LRMT Red Line rail system, initially estimated to transport over 500,000 passengers daily, spans 27 kilometers from Agbado to Oyingbo, with stations at Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, and terminating at Oyingbo.
