Tinubu has officially launched the initial fleet of electric taxis in Maiduguri.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned 107 Mass Transit vehicles, including 50 electric taxis, which were procured by the Borno Government. The inauguration took place on Monday, December 11, during the President’s visit to the state for the Chief of Army Staff Conference. During the ceremony, President Tinubu praised Governor Babagana Zulum for his forward-thinking policies and projects, announcing the Federal Government’s plans to establish a plant to generate employment and facilitate transportation.

Governor Zulum, in his earlier statement, explained that the initiative was inspired by a directive from the President to governors after the removal of the fuel subsidy. The deployment of 50 electric taxis, a first in Nigeria, aligns with the realities of climate change. The vehicles inaugurated included 50 electric taxis, 35 coaster buses, 12 Hummer buses, and 10 luxurious buses.

During his first official visit to the state, President Tinubu paid a courtesy call on the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi, and declared open the annual Chief of Army Staff Conference. Additionally, Tinubu extended condolences to the families affected by the recent bombing in Tudun Biri, Kaduna State, noting that many victims lost their lives while reciting the Shadada during Maulud, a central statement of faith for Muslims.

At the Shehu of Borno’s palace, President Tinubu pledged the Federal Government’s continuous support to families affected by insecurity in Borno State. He emphasized the commitment to addressing security concerns beyond the battlefield, ensuring better amenities and benefits for the armed forces and their families. Tinubu affirmed that security matters would remain a top priority under his administration, reflected in the 2024 budget. The President reiterated the government’s dedication to expressing gratitude to those making ultimate sacrifices on behalf of the nation.
