A business professional takes his own life following a loss of N2.5 million through gambling in Abia.

A Nigerian entrepreneur named Onoh Chukwuma reportedly ended his own life on Tuesday, allegedly driven by the loss of N2.5 million in gambling. Chukwuma, identified as the CEO of Faso Energy Limited, ingested a pesticide known as snipper and was subsequently rushed to a hospital where a doctor confirmed his death.

Prior to taking his own life, Chukwuma posted a farewell message on his Facebook page, indicating his intention. The message expressed gratitude to specific individuals and friends and conveyed a sense of finality, stating that it was his last day on earth.

Upon receiving distress signals from friends, they discovered Chukwuma in pain and promptly transported him to Madonna Hospital in Umuahia. Some friends claimed that he had already ingested the pesticide before the live video.

Reports suggest that Chukwuma’s suicide may have been triggered by the significant financial losses he suffered from gambling. Allegedly borrowing N1.5 million in addition to his own N1 million to fuel his betting habit, he faced financial strain and mounting pressure from creditors.

One of Chukwuma’s friends, Ibeako Esther Chisom, expressed sorrow on Facebook, narrating the unsuccessful efforts of medical staff to revive him. Another individual, Obika James Abuchi, questioned Chukwuma’s decision, highlighting the apparent link between his financial troubles and the tragic outcome.

The incident has prompted discussions about the perils of gambling addiction and the importance of seeking assistance for mental health concerns. Friends and family have taken to Chukwuma’s Facebook page to share condolences and express their grief.

Chukwuma is survived by his elderly mother, whom he frequently mentioned on Facebook. Just a few weeks before his death, he shared about his mother encouraging him to find a life partner and get married.
