Sokoto Governor welcomes 66 rescued abductees by Nigerian Army
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, on Monday, received 66 kidnap victims who were freed by the troops of the Joint Task Force North West ‘Operation Hadarin Daji’, OPHD, of the Nigerian Army.
The governor praised the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their efforts in restoring peace in the state.
He said the rescue operation was a significant milestone, as the victims were abducted from different villages and communities in Isah local government area of the state.
He revealed that 52 victims were rescued on Thursday, 22 December, 2023, while 14 more were rescued on Saturday, bringing the total number to 66.
He also said that his administration had recently donated 80 vehicles to all security agencies to boost their operations across the state.
He urged the people of the state to cooperate with the security agencies by providing useful information to enhance the state’s security.
The Garrison Commander 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Alex Tawasimi, who presented the rescued victims to the governor, said the operation was part of the ongoing campaign against terrorism.
He said the victims, comprising 14 males, 32 females, and 6 children, had received medical attention and counselling and were ready to reunite with their families.
He thanked the governor for his support and assured him that the Nigerian Army would continue to do its best to ensure peace in Sokoto State and its surroundings.
