Jigawa auto crash claims 11 lives

Tragedy struck along the Kwanar Gujungu Town in Taura Local Government Area (LGA) of Jigawa State, claiming the lives of no fewer than 11 individuals in a devastating road accident, as revealed by DSP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the Jigawa State Command Public Relations Officer, in an official statement.

The sorrowful incident occurred on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at approximately 12:00 PM, where the command reported a fatal motor vehicle accident that resulted in the loss of 11 lives.

The victims were identified as Abdullahi Muhammad (35 years old), Samira Ahmad (45 years old), Ummi Muhammad (36 years old), Rabi Ahmad (35 years old), Maryam Isah (32 years old), and Aisha Hamza (1 year old) – all from Nassarawa LGA, Kano state.

Others included Safiyanu Manu (40 years old), Nura Muhammad (35 years old), Ikram Abdurrashid (3 years old), Lawal Mika’il (60 years old), and Abdurrashid Abubakar (35 years old) – all from Taura LGA, Kano state.

DSP Shiisu Lawan Adam detailed that the tragic incident transpired when a Honda L.E vehicle, ash in color with registration number NSR 469 AE, driven by Abdullahi Muhammad, was transporting five passengers from Kano to Balangu town in Kafin Hausa LGA.

Simultaneously, another vehicle, a red Golf Wagon with registration number AUY 292 XA, driven by Safiyanu Mamu, was conveying four passengers from Gujungu to Taura LGA.

The collision occurred at Kwanar Gujungu town, resulting in the immediate loss of all 11 occupants in both vehicles.

Upon receiving the distressing report, a team of police personnel from the Motor Traffic Department (MTD) at Taura Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly responded, rushing to the scene to convey the deceased to the General Hospital.

Unfortunately, a medical doctor at the hospital confirmed all 11 individuals dead on arrival.

In response to the tragic incident, Commissioner of Police Jigawa state, CP AT Abdullahi, conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the officers and men of the command to the families, relatives, and well-wishers of the deceased during this challenging period.

He fervently prayed for the departed souls, asking Almighty Allah for mercy, forgiveness of their shortcomings, and to prevent the recurrence of such heart-wrenching incidents in the future.
