A thunderstorm in Nasarawa state has resulted in the hospitalization of at least six people, with four individuals tragically losing their lives due to the lightning strike. The incident occurred at Nasarawa Garage in the Nasarawa Local Government Area on Saturday.
An eyewitness named Mubidi shared a firsthand account of the frightening event, describing the intense thunder strike that prompted people to run in confusion. Subsequently, a gathering formed under a tree, revealing that three individuals had lost their lives in the lightning strike. Mubidi expressed that witnessing such a terrifying event was unprecedented in his life.
Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim, the Honorable member representing Nasarawa Central constituency and Chairperson of the Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the affected families. In an official statement, Ibrahim expressed sympathy for those who lost their lives and sustained injuries, praying for eternal rest for the deceased and strength for their families.
In a related incident in Abuja, a construction worker rescued from a building collapse on November 25 has unfortunately passed away. The worker was part of a team casting the first floor of a building when the entire cast collapsed on him. The incident occurred at a construction site in the Central Business District beside Taj Bank around 3:30 pm. Despite rescue efforts using extrication equipment and an excavator, the victim, initially taken to the Trauma Centre of the National Hospital, Abuja, succumbed to injuries. The acting director general of FEMA, Mohammed Ibrahim Sabo, emphasized the importance of adherence to building codes and safety measures in construction, urging developers to prioritize the well-being of workers and consumers.
