Military to Lay to Rest Slain Soldiers in Delta on Wednesday

The Nigerian Army has finalized preparations to honorably bury its personnel who lost their lives in Okuama Community, Delta State, with a solemn ceremony scheduled to take place in Abuja on Wednesday. The 17 fallen soldiers, attached to the 181 Amphibious Battalion, will be interred at the National Cemetery in Abuja at 3:00 pm. They tragically lost their lives while on a peacekeeping mission to quell the communal crisis between the Okuoma and Okoloba communities in the South-South State.

The conflict erupted on March 14, 2024, when the troops responded to a distress call during the communal clash. The military high command has directed an immediate investigation and the apprehension of those responsible for the heinous crime, leading to the displacement of residents from the affected community.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has mandated a swift investigation and the arrest of the perpetrators. President Bola Tinubu will attend the burial ceremony as the Special Guest of Honour to pay his respects to the fallen heroes. The Army remains steadfast in its constitutional duties, with troops committed to maintaining peace and security across various operations.
