INEC is set for the Kano Assembly bye-election-REC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kano has confirmed that it has completed the necessary preparations for the upcoming by-elections in Kunchi/Tsanyawa, Kura/Garin Malam, and Rimin Gado/Tofa State Assembly constituencies scheduled for February 3.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abdu Zango, made this announcement during a meeting with stakeholders at the commission’s headquarters in Kano on Tuesday.

Zango assured that the commission is fully ready for the by-election, with trained electoral personnel prepared to conduct a transparent and credible voting process across six local government areas.

The elections will take place in 66 polling units within these areas.

Emphasizing the importance of a permanent voter card (PVC), Zango stated that individuals without a PVC would not be allowed to participate in the upcoming by-election.

He further revealed that the commission has already dispatched both sensitive and non-sensitive materials to the affected local government areas.

To ensure the integrity of the election, Zango explained that the Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BIVAS) machine would be utilized during the re-run elections.

He expressed confidence that the by-election would be conducted smoothly and successfully, citing the commission’s preparations and the deployment of personnel equipped with essential electoral knowledge.

Zango commended the Police for providing the necessary security personnel to ensure a secure environment during the by-election.

The State Police Commissioner, Usaini Gumel, assured that security measures are in place to facilitate a trouble-free electoral process in the designated local government areas.

Gumel emphasized the police’s commitment to visibility in all polling units, urging political party leaders to discourage their supporters from engaging in violence, ballot snatching, or thuggery.

He warned that the police would take swift action against anyone disrupting the peaceful political atmosphere of the state.
