Fresh herdsmen attacks in Benue communities result in 12 deaths and several injuries
Gunmen, believed to be Fulani herdsmen, have recently carried out attacks in Benue State’s Logo Local Government Area, specifically in Anyiin, Ayilamo, Iorza, and Gbeji communities.
In these unprovoked incidents that commenced last Monday, three individuals were killed initially, with the violence persisting until Sunday, resulting in a total of 12 deaths and numerous injuries, according to reliable eyewitness accounts.
An anonymous eyewitness, seeking refuge, reported that aside from breaking into homes, the assailants obstructed roads in Anyiin, Iorza, and Gbeji during daylight hours, causing additional casualties and extorting money from vulnerable villagers.
The eyewitness appealed to the Benue State Government for immediate security measures to protect the defenseless residents of Anyiin and nearby areas facing severe attacks.
He stated that the herdsmen conducted the assaults daily over the past two weeks without any intervention from security forces.
The Benue State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Sewuese Anene, affirmed the attacks in a discussion with journalists.
She mentioned that the command has dispatched personnel to ensure peace in the affected communities and urged the impacted individuals to stay calm.
