Born on August 8, 1968, in Dungung, Kanke LG, to the family of the Late Rev and Mrs Toma Yilwatda, Dr. Yilwatda’s journey has been one of dedication, innovation, and impactful contributions.
Educational Journey and Expertise
Dr. Yilwatda’s educational journey began with distinction, culminating in a First Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, in 1992.
His pursuit of knowledge continued as he earned a Master of Engineering and a PhD, specializing in Digital Systems Engineering, from ATBU Bauchi and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, respectively.
His thirst for expertise led him to the United Nations University International Institute for Software Tech., Macau, China, where he received training on Building Electronic Governance Structure.

Dr. Yilwatda’s professional journey is a tapestry of diverse experiences. He served as an Assistant Lecturer at the Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkinladi, before joining the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, in 1996.
Over 25 years within the university system saw him excel as a teacher, researcher, and project implementer, notably as the pioneer Director of Information and Communication Technology.
His contributions extended beyond academia. Dr. Yilwatda played a pivotal role in ICT reforms, enhancing government transparency and institutional strength.
He served as a consultant for international development partners, including the World Bank and UNICEF, where his work in alternative energy sources for health facilities highlighted infrastructure challenges in certain geographical zones.

In 2017, Dr. Yilwatda’s commitment to national service took a new dimension when he was appointed as a Commissioner with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He became the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue State, championing IDP voting rights, fostering peace, and working towards a more inclusive electoral process.
