Court grants Cubana Chief Priest N10m bail

The Federal High Court in Lagos State granted Pascal Okechukwu, or Cubana Chief Priest, bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum. Cubana Chief Priest, pleading not guilty to charges of tampering and abusing the naira during his trial, was arraigned before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on three counts related to the abuse of the national currency at a social event.

The charges allege that Cubana Chief Priest sprayed the naira during an event at Eko Hotel on February 13, 2024, and tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 notes. This activity is said to have occurred over two hours. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) secured the conviction of another celebrity, Bobrisky, on similar charges, leading to a six-month imprisonment sentence.

The EFCC has been investigating several celebrities for alleged abuse of Naira notes. In a statement, the commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, emphasized their commitment to law enforcement and urged the public to comply with regulations.
