Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has unveiled an N1.3 billion scholarship initiative designated for 997 nursing and midwifery students native to the state. The announcement was made during the launch of the scholarship program in Maiduguri, the state capital.
Initially, the program received 1,080 nominations, with 40 candidates selected from each of the 27 local government areas. Following a rigorous entrance examination, 997 successful candidates were chosen to be the beneficiaries of the scholarship.
Governor Zulum emphasized that the initiative is geared towards meeting the growing demand for healthcare services in the state, prompted by its expanding population. The scholarship budget includes N124,149,000 allocated for tuition fees, with the remaining N1,181,040,000 earmarked for disbursing a monthly stipend of N30,000 to each student throughout their studies.
