Anambra LP welcomes 300 APGA defectors, aims to oust Soludo

In a strategic move aimed at the 2025 Anambra State governorship election, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate and current Labour Party (LP) aspirant, has declared his intent to challenge incumbent Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo. Ozigbo made this assertion during a gathering where over 300 All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) defectors officially joined the Labour Party.

The defectors, predominantly APGA members from Ogbaru Local Government Area, were led by Pius Igwilo, a former APGA aspirant for Ogbaru 1 Constituency of Anambra State House of Assembly during the 2023 general elections. The event, held at the Holiday Resort field in Onitsha, saw the convergence of LP leaders including Afam Ogene, member of the House of Representatives for Ogbaru Federal Constituency.

Expressing confidence in the LP’s growing influence, Ozigbo urged the new members to actively recruit others to bolster the party’s strength at all levels of governance. He criticized Soludo’s administration, asserting that it has failed to meet the expectations of Anambra residents, thereby paving the way for LP’s ascendancy in the upcoming elections.

Addressing the defectors, Ogene emphasized the need for a change in leadership, highlighting Soludo’s unfulfilled promises and perceived shortcomings in governance. Igwilo echoed similar sentiments, citing disillusionment with APGA’s performance and a desire to support Peter Obi’s vision within the Labour Party. The collective sentiment among the defectors underscored a growing dissatisfaction with the current administration and a collective determination to effect change in Anambra politics.
