The Senate has opposed the Ministry of Power’s proposal to raise electricity tariffs, citing the current economic challenges in the country. Additionally, they have dismissed the idea of eliminating subsidies on electricity.
These decisions were made following the Senate’s review and endorsement of a motion presented by Senator Aminu Abbas (PDP, Adamawa Central) during plenary, emphasizing the importance of maintaining electricity subsidies for the foreseeable future. Last week, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu revealed in a press conference in Abuja that Nigeria may not be able to maintain the existing electricity subsidy.
