The Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel International, Bishop David Oyedepo, has vehemently criticized internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as “Yahoo Boys,” stating that their future is tarnished. Derived from the Yahoo e-mail service, the term “Yahoo Boy” is emblematic of young men involved in various internet fraud schemes, notably advanced fee fraud and scams.
Addressing congregants at Canaanland on Sunday, Oyedepo urged youths to adhere to the law and cautioned against fraudulent activities. He condemned those who engage in defrauding others, warning that their path leads only to bitterness and ruin. Emphasizing the principles of sowing and reaping, he encouraged adherence to ethical conduct and lawful endeavors to build a prosperous future.
Oyedepo’s stance aligns with other religious leaders’ condemnation of internet fraud. Notably, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, founder of Salvation Ministries, similarly criticized “Yahoo Boys” in a sermon in 2022, labeling them as thieves who will ultimately face unrest due to their exploitation of others. This collective clerical denunciation underscores the societal rejection of fraudulent activities and advocates for adherence to moral and legal standards.
