Professor Yinka Olomojobi, a distinguished member of the Faculty of Law at Babcock University in Ilishan, Ogun State, met a tragic end as he was shot dead by unidentified gunmen.
The incident occurred at the Ajadeh Event Centre along Sagamu Road in the Iperu area around 9:20 pm on Friday. Reportedly, the assailants, numbering eight, also abducted two other individuals during the attack.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, stated that the gunmen shot Professor Olomojobi in the chest when he resisted the abduction. The attack appeared to be indiscriminate, with the assailants firing shots upon entering the event center.
In addition to Professor Olomojobi, a car stand manager named Dare was also shot, and a third person remains unidentified. The injured were rushed to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, where Professor Olomojobi was pronounced dead. While one suspect has been apprehended for further investigation, the police have intensified efforts to rescue the kidnapped victims and bring the perpetrators to justice. The incident underscores the escalating security challenges facing Nigeria, where even academics are not immune to the threat of violence and abduction.
