French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Monday that France possesses intelligence suggesting that the Islamic State (IS) orchestrated the deadly attack at a Moscow concert hall on Friday. Macron cautioned Russia against exploiting the incident to blame Ukraine, emphasizing that IS was responsible for planning and executing the assault. He highlighted previous attempts by the same group to carry out attacks within French borders.
While IS has claimed responsibility for the attack, Moscow has refrained from commenting on the claim, with President Vladimir Putin and security services hinting at potential links to Ukraine. Macron urged Russia to avoid exploiting the situation, deeming such actions cynical and counterproductive. France has offered increased cooperation with Russian security services, focusing on technical and ministerial-level engagement rather than direct talks with Putin.
In response to the attack, Russia has ordered the detention of four men accused of carrying out the massacre, charging them with terrorism offenses. With over 100 individuals hospitalized, the death toll is expected to rise from the initial count of 137 fatalities. The unfolding tragedy underscores the urgent need for coordinated efforts to address terrorism threats and ensure public safety.
