Israel Pushes for Diplomatic Sanctions on Iran

Israel launched a “diplomatic offensive” against Iran on Tuesday, seeking support from 32 nations to impose sanctions against the Revolutionary Guards and their missile program. This move comes in response to Iran’s unprecedented direct attack on Israel late Saturday, which utilized over 300 drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. The attack was purportedly retaliation for an earlier airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

Despite the scale of Iran’s assault, the Israeli military claimed to have intercepted 99 percent of the aerial threats with assistance from the United States and other allies. The attack resulted in minimal damage, including to a military base in the country’s southern region. In light of these events, Foreign Minister Israel Katz announced a diplomatic initiative aimed at countering Iran’s aggression.

Katz revealed that he had initiated discussions with foreign ministers and leaders across the globe, urging them to support sanctions against Iran’s missile program and to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization. While he did not specify the countries approached, Katz emphasized the urgency of the situation, asserting that Iran must be halted before it’s too late. This statement reflects Israel’s determination to respond effectively to Iran’s recent provocations and to prevent further escalation in the region.
