A team from Enugu State, led by the Head of Service, Mr. Kenneth Ugwu, visited the Ezeagu Local Government headquarters to address absenteeism among civil servants. They questioned absent workers and warned against habitual absenteeism.
The visit was prompted by a viral video showing the deserted local government headquarters, contrary to the state’s directive for civil servants to work five days a week. Governor Peter Mbah’s administration is conducting a staff audit amid concerns about irregular attendance among those on the state payroll.
During the visit, the team found only 36 out of over 200 council workers present. Mr. Ugwu emphasized the importance of productivity and warned that absenteeism without permission would not be tolerated. The team reiterated the governor’s commitment to enforcing accountability and discipline in the civil service.
