Court Sentence

In Ekiti State, a 28-year-old man named Ayodeji Alomoge has been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of a man involved with his wife. The incident took place in Ikere Ekiti on June 21, 2022, leading to the death of Ogunleye Ayomide. Alomoge was tried for murder under the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The father of the deceased, Ige Ogunleye, recounted how he found his son severely injured and covered in blood after being attacked by Alomoge and his associates. Alomoge confessed to the act, claiming that Ayomide had been having an affair with his wife despite warnings to stop. Despite efforts to save Ayomide, he succumbed to his injuries at the University Teaching Hospital in Ilorin, Kwara State.

During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence including witness testimonies, the defendant’s statements, images of the deceased, and a medical report on the cause of death. In his defense, Alomoge’s lawyer appealed for leniency, but the court, presided over by Justice Jubril Aladejana, found him guilty of murder. Consequently, Ayodeji Alomoge was sentenced to death by hanging, with the judge emphasizing that passion-driven conflicts should not justify such extreme actions.
