Dangote Renames 120km Refinery Road in Honor of Wigwe

Billionaire tycoon Aliko Dangote has bestowed a significant honor by renaming the extensive 120km route leading to his refinery in Lagos after the late Herbert Wigwe. This tribute symbolizes recognition for Wigwe’s remarkable contributions to the refinery project, emphasizing his pivotal role in its advancement. The announcement took place on Monday at a special commemorative event hosted at Eko Hotel, Lagos, entitled ‘Celebrating Herbert Wigwe – A Professional Legacy.’

During the event, Dangote expressed heartfelt admiration for the former Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, lauding his unwavering commitment and unparalleled expertise. In a poignant gesture, Dangote articulated his decision to immortalize Wigwe’s memory by renaming the primary artery of the refinery and petrochemical complex after him, affirming, “To immortalize my beloved friend, my brother, and mentee, I’ve actually decided to name our major refinery and petrochemical road out of the 120km road, the biggest road will now be named Herbert Wigwe.” This tribute comes following the tragic helicopter crash on February 9, which claimed the lives of Wigwe, his wife, Doreen, son Chizi, and former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, near a border town between California and Nevada in the United States.
