Bauchi Varsity Student Arrested with Firearm: 300-Level Student Confesses to Leasing Revolver Pistol for Protection
In a recent development, a 23-year-old 300-level student at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, named Atim Emmanuel, has been apprehended by the Bauchi State Police Command for the possession of a revolver pistol and a cartridge.
The arrest took place on December 11, 2023, as Emmanuel was leaving the university campus.
According to the statement issued by the Bauchi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Ahmed Wakil, the suspect confessed to obtaining the firearm on lease from an individual named Zadog for two academic sessions at the cost of N12,000. Emmanuel claimed that he used the locally-made pistol for self-defense and security when confronted by criminals.
Commissioner of Police Auwal Musa has directed the transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation to uncover the motives behind acquiring the firearm and to determine whether any criminal activities, including potential homicides, are associated with it. The police are committed to eradicating criminal elements in student communities across the state.
