Amazon and Google announced significant layoffs on Wednesday, marking a shift in strategy to address over-expansion during the post-pandemic period. Amazon, having already reduced its workforce by 27,000 since late 2022, is cutting jobs in its studio division and subsidiary Twitch. Google is also implementing layoffs across divisions, including the Google Assistant program, hardware, and internal software tools.
The tech industry, which experienced a surge during the pandemic, is now adjusting as consumers return to normal life, prompting companies to streamline operations. Last year, tens of thousands of employees were laid off as the reliance on online work, play, shopping, and studying decreased after the end of the coronavirus crisis.
