A total of 103 Nigerians deported from Turkey have been received by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other stakeholders. The deportees arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Friday at 7 pm, traveling via the pilgrims’ wing of the airport. Their flight, Southwind Airlines TCGRB, brought them back from Turkey to Nigeria.
Upon arrival, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, addressed the returnees, urging them to accept their experience in good faith and to be law-abiding. Represented by Alhaji Bashir Garga, the Director of the North Central Zone, Mrs. Umar assured the returnees of the Federal Government’s concern for their plight. She mentioned that they were received with dignity to help ease their experience. Additionally, she announced that financial support was provided to assist with their transportation to various locations.
Following their arrival, the deportees underwent screening by the Port Health Authority, profiling by NEMA and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), and clearance by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS). They were then provided with transportation assistance to help them reach their destinations. Other stakeholders involved in receiving the deportees included officials from the Nigerian Immigration Service, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
