The Minister of Sports, Senator John Enoh, has provided reassurance to Nigerians that the Super Eagles, the senior men’s national football team, will have a new coach within the next one to two weeks.
Since the departure of Jose Peseiro, whose contract ended in February, Finidi George has been overseeing the team on an interim basis while the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) searches for a permanent replacement. Expressing concern over the delay in appointing a new coach, Senator Enoh emphasized the urgency, especially with the team’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against South Africa in June.
Enoh stressed the significance of not missing out on another World Cup, highlighting the need for a strong start after the disappointing results in the previous qualifiers and the absence from the 2022 tournament. He emphasized the importance of consolidating on the team’s recent performance at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and ensuring a successful campaign moving forward.
