In Oke-Owa, Ogun State, a nurse is currently at large after allegedly performing an abortion on Deborah Sokoya, leading to her hospitalization due to severe bleeding. According to reports from a police source, Sokoya had initially informed her partner, Peter Balogun, about visiting her sister, Mutiat Sokoya. However, upon reaching Mutiat’s residence in the Iperin area of Ijebu-Ode, Sokoya was allegedly lured to a location where the abortion procedure was carried out.
The failed abortion left Sokoya in critical condition, prompting her hospitalization for urgent medical attention. This incident has sparked an investigation by the authorities, who are actively seeking to apprehend the nurse responsible for the procedure and any other individuals involved. Additionally, it has been revealed that Balogun had previously financed another abortion for Sokoya in September 2023, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding both incidents.
As the investigation unfolds, both Mutiat and Balogun have been detained by the police for questioning. The authorities are determined to ensure that justice is served in this case and are actively pursuing leads to locate the nurse and any other accomplices. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with unsafe abortion practices and the importance of upholding laws and regulations surrounding reproductive health services.
