The governor of Nasarawa State has submitted a 2024 budget of N199.9 billion to the lawmakers
On Friday, Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, submitted a budget proposal of N199.9 billion for the year 2024 to the state House of Assembly, seeking their consideration and approval.
Upon receiving the budget at the assembly’s complex in Lafia, the acting Speaker of the Assembly, Abel Bala, assured the governor of a swift passage.
Governor Sule informed the assembly that the proposed budget, once approved, would contribute to the continuation and completion of ongoing projects while also facilitating the initiation of new projects for the overall development of the state.
He guaranteed the legislators that his government would persist in prioritizing transparency, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law to facilitate the swift development of the state.
Sule named the 2024 budget “Budget of Renewed Commitment.” He expressed, “I am pleased to present a comprehensive budget of N199,879,370,709.43 for the fiscal year 2024. Out of this total, N112,925,350,954.18, accounting for 56 percent, is allocated to Recurrent Expenditure, while N86,954,019,755.50, representing 44 percent of the total budget, is designated for Capital Expenditure in the year 2024.”
The allocations for different sectors in the budget are outlined as follows: Administrative Sector – Education: N41.9 billion, Health: N27.5 billion, Environment: N5.5 billion, Local Government: N6.3 billion, Finance: N13.1 billion, Trade and Investment: N3.8 billion, Ministry of Science and Technology: N1.7 billion, Ministry of Works: N22.7 billion, Water Resources: N4.1 billion, Lands and Urban Development: N8.6 billion, State Assembly: N4.3 billion, and Information, Culture, and Tourism: N2.6 billion.
He clarified that his government had placed a strong emphasis on infrastructure development to enhance the quality of life for the residents of the state.
In response, Bala expressed gratitude to the governor for the punctual submission of the budget. He stated, “Your Excellency, based on our preliminary oversight findings, it is evident that Nasarawa State has not historically exceeded projections in terms of Internally Generated Revenue. However, we sincerely commend you for the significant progress in infrastructure development.”
Bala expressed gratitude to the former Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Abdullahi, for his notable accomplishments in facilitating the passage of numerous bills and resolutions over the past eight years and six months.
He further affirmed that the 2024 Appropriation Bill would be promptly processed, ensuring it becomes law before December 31, 2023.
It’s worth noting that on November 22, 2023, Sule submitted the 2023 budget of N148.9 billion to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for review and approval.
