Military Denies Allegations of Firing on Civilians in Plateau State

Troops of the Nigerian Army achieved a significant victory on Friday, taking down three terrorists during a daring raid on the infamous Sambisa forest located in Borno State. The operation also saw the destruction of several terrorist hideouts within the dense forest, which has unfortunately become a stronghold for both Boko Haram and Islamic State for West Africa Province militants. Despite repeated clearance efforts by the military in the area, the terrorists persist in using the forest as a base for their activities.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the successful raid resulted in the neutralization of three terrorists, including a suicide bomber, and the obliteration of their encampment in the Arra area of Sambisa Forest. Following a meticulous search of the area, the troops recovered two AK-47 rifles and a suicide vest, further disrupting the terrorists’ operations.

Additionally, in a separate operation conducted in the Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno, one terrorist was eliminated, and another terrorist camp was dismantled by the vigilant troops. The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its commitment to eradicating terrorism and insurgency in the region, continuing to conduct proactive operations aimed at safeguarding the populace and ensuring peace and security. As the Muslim faithful prepare for the Ramadan period, troops deployed nationwide stand ready to address any potential threats, reaffirming the Defense Headquarters’ dedication to protecting the country’s citizens from harm.
