President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emphasized the urgency for governors to tackle the dual challenges of escalating food prices and insecurity within their states. During a meeting with the 36 state governors and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, Tinubu, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, urged proactive measures such as augmenting police forces and instituting state-level policing.
In addition to addressing security concerns, Tinubu highlighted the necessity for governors to prioritize strategies aimed at bolstering local food production, curbing hoarding practices, settling outstanding salary payments, and fostering economic prospects for the youth. The call to action underscores the critical need for collaborative efforts between federal and state authorities to mitigate the adverse effects of these pressing issues on the populace.
