27 Fatalities in Jigawa and Plateau Due to Crashes and Attacks

 

At least 27 individuals have reportedly lost their lives in car accidents and multiple attacks over the weekend in Jigawa and Plateau states.

On Saturday, 11 people perished in a car crash in Kwanar Gujungu town, Taura local government area of Jigawa State. According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Jigawa Police Command, ASP Lawan Shiisu, the collision involved a Honda saloon car (registration number NSR 469 AE) and a Golf wagon (registration number AUY 292 XA), resulting in the immediate death of all 11 occupants.

A police team from Taura Divisional Police Headquarters promptly responded, transporting the victims to the General Hospital, Taura, where a medical doctor confirmed their demise.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ahmadu Abdullahi, expressed condolences and prayed for mercy and forgiveness for the deceased.

Simultaneously, the Special Task Force responsible for security in Plateau, Bauchi, and parts of Kaduna (Operation Safe Haven or OPSH) confirmed that suspected gunmen killed 16 people in Mushu village, situated between Mangu and Bokkos Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

OPSH spokesperson Captain Oya James disclosed that the gunmen invaded the village, causing the death of 16 individuals. Major General AE Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), directed the deployment of additional troops to prevent further unrest.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang strongly condemned the attacks on Mushu village, directing security agencies to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators. The governor expressed deep concern over the violence, urging communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.

He questioned the impunity of attackers and emphasized the need for collective collaboration among rural communities, assuring proactive measures to curb ongoing attacks on innocent citizens.
