[UPDATE] Ex-Imo traditional council chair kidnapped by gunmen

On Saturday, some gunmen abducted Samuel Ohiri, a former head of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, from his home in Orodo Mbaitoli LGA of the state, according to reports.

Ohiri is the ruler of Orodo and was the council’s chairman during the tenure of ex-Governor Rochas Okorocha.

Henry Okoye, the state police command’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident when our reporter reached out to him.

He said the state police had launched a rescue operation for the monarch and promised that he would be safely freed.

Okoye said, “We have the situation under control. We have started a rigorous investigation and we are taking measures to ensure that His Royal Highness, Eze Ohiri, is unhurt and his abductors are apprehended and brought to justice.

“We are confident that we will succeed in this case and we will keep the public informed as we progress.”

The state police PRO also said that the state command and the Nigeria Police Force in general do not bargain with kidnappers.

He added, “Our men are in the field, pursuing these criminals and we have been making positive strides in this case.”

PUNCH online also reported that Eze Joe Ochulor, the ruler of Otulu community in Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA of Imo state, was killed after being kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

He was seized on Saturday morning, November 25, 2023, and was reportedly murdered in the evening.

His corpse was discovered on the roadside at Mbutu community in the adjacent Aboh Mbaise LGA.
