Portugal News: 4.0 Christmas earthquake
In a seismic event that occurred at 9:02 pm on December 25, an earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale was experienced in the municipalities of Évora, Almeirim, and Ponte de Sor.
The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) released a statement confirming that, based on current information, no personal or material damage has been reported.
The IPMA noted that the earthquake reached maximum intensity IV/V on the modified Mercalli scale in the municipalities of Évora and Almeirim.
The epicenter was situated approximately 14 kilometers northeast of Vendas Novas. Despite the noticeable tremors, residents in Ponte de Sor (Portalegre) experienced the quake with less intensity.
Authorities and emergency services remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and monitoring seismic activities in the affected regions.
