Peter Obi visits Plateau, donates N5 million to aid victims
In the aftermath of the tragic assault by armed assailants on Christmas Eve in Bokkos and Barkin-ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State, Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, demonstrated his solidarity by visiting the internally displaced persons affected by the attacks.
Accompanied by party officials, he made a compassionate gesture by contributing N5 million to aid the victims.
Expressing his concerns during the visit, Obi lamented the escalating insecurity within the nation and fervently appealed to the Federal Government to prioritize the safeguarding of Nigerian lives.
He underscored the urgency of addressing the rising numbers of internally displaced people within the country, emphasizing the intolerability of citizens seeking refuge within their own nation.
The gravity of the situation became apparent as the armed assault claimed the lives of 195 individuals, with the majority of casualties occurring in Bokkos Local Government Area, where 148 lives were lost. Additionally, 19 lives were reported lost in Mangu Local Government Area and 27 in Barkin Ladi.
The devastation extended beyond human casualties, with 1,290 houses being razed in Bokkos council and one house burnt down in Mangu LGA.
Obi’s visit and financial assistance underscored the pressing need for concerted efforts to address both the immediate aftermath of the attacks and the broader issues of national security and internal displacement.
