The Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ungoggo Division in Kano State, has apprehended a suspected kidnapper named Ibrahim Usman in Yar’adua quarters, Rimin Kebe, Ungoggo Local Government Area. The 85-year-old Usman allegedly abducted a three-year-old boy from the neighborhood and tried to conceal him at his friend’s house on the Hotoro bye-pass in Kano State.

However, Usman’s friend grew suspicious and refused to harbor the child, prompting him to inform residents in Rimin Kebe about the situation. Residents, who were searching for the missing boy, then alerted authorities. Usman fled the scene but was later captured by NSCDC personnel from the Ungoggo Division. It was noted that despite having the victim’s phone number for two months, Usman never attempted to contact him.

The investigation into the case is progressing, with plans to charge Usman in court upon its conclusion. This arrest comes amidst nationwide concern over increasing cases of abduction. Several states, including Kano, have pledged to enforce strict penalties, such as the death sentence and life imprisonment, for convicted kidnappers. Additionally, the Kano State Police Command recently reported a significant breakthrough in operations with the arrest of another suspected kidnapper and murderer, Ismail Rabiu, also known as ‘Risi’.
