During the Call to the Bar ceremonies, the Director General of the Nigerian Law School announced the successful candidates from the November 2023 Bar Final examinations. In addition to the 4,412 successful candidates, 14 candidates from previous exams were also presented. He expressed satisfaction with the performance of the candidates, highlighting that out of the 5,300 participants, 83.3% emerged successful. Particularly noteworthy was the achievement of 251 candidates who attained first-class grades, reflecting exceptional performance.

Addressing the challenges facing the judiciary, Mary Peter-Odili, the Chairman of the Body of Benchers and a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, acknowledged the current crisis of confidence in the legal system. She lamented the proliferation of conflicting judgments and the lack of discipline among lawyers, which have contributed to this decline in trust. Peter-Odili emphasized the urgent need to address these issues, stating that they have established a committee dedicated to resolving the problem of conflicting judgments.

In response to the decline in public confidence, the Body of Benchers has taken proactive measures to address the issues affecting the legal profession. By acknowledging the challenges and initiating corrective actions, they aim to restore trust in the judiciary and uphold the integrity of the legal system. The commitment to addressing these concerns reflects a dedication to ensuring justice and professionalism within the legal community.
