The Niger State Government has designated N976 million for Ramadan food provisions across the eight emirate councils within the state. The initiative aims to support communities during the holy month. As part of the effort, an array of grains has been acquired for distribution across all 25 local government areas, emirate councils, religious bodies, security agencies, and political factions throughout the state.

According to a statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Binta Mamman, each local government will receive a substantial quantity of assorted grains. This distribution includes 7,079 bags comprising 10kg rice, 25kg rice, 10kg maize, 25kg maize, 10kg millet, sorghum, and beans. Notably, some LGAs such as Bida, Kontagora, and Suleja are slated to receive 14,000 bags each, with Chanchaga LGA leading with 21,000 bags. Additionally, traditional and religious entities, security agencies, the Niger State House of Assembly, the political party APC, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and organized labor will also benefit from this provision.

The total expenditure for Ramadan feeding across the eight emirate councils is projected at N976 million. This allocation underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring food security and welfare support for its citizens, particularly during significant religious observances like Ramadan. The comprehensive distribution strategy aims to reach various sectors of society, fostering inclusivity and social cohesion during this period of communal observance.
