The Northern Elders Forum, under the leadership of Prof. Ango Abdullahi, voiced grave concern over the recent abduction of 287 pupils and teachers from Government Secondary School and LEA Primary School, Kuriga 1, located in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Bandits struck the LEA Primary Kuriga around 8:30 am on Thursday, catching students and staff off guard just after the morning assembly.

The escalation of insecurity prompted the secondary school to relocate to the primary school premises, illustrating the dire situation in the region. Governor Uba Sani assured the state’s populace of efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted pupils, providing some solace amid the distressing situation.

The NEF, echoing widespread dismay, condemned the alarming surge in school abductions, particularly emphasizing the disturbing pattern prevalent in Northern Nigeria. This latest incident underscores the fragility of national security and accentuates the urgent need for collective action to safeguard the region’s educational institutions and the future of its youth.
