Two female students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, tragically lost their lives in a stampede that occurred at the university’s convocation square during the distribution of palliatives by the Nasarawa State government. The incident, which took place on Friday, left several others with various degrees of injuries, according to a source within the university.
The source revealed that the two female students were suffocated in the crowd and were later declared dead by healthcare workers. The National President of the Nasarawa State Students Association, Yunusa Baduku, confirmed the incident, stating that many students had been rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
Baduku described the situation as uncalled for and tragic, explaining that the stampede ensued after students overwhelmed the security personnel at the venue. He expressed deep concern for the injured students, many of whom suffered injuries and suffocation due to the overcrowding during the palliatives distribution.
At the Federal Medical Center Keffi, where some students were taken for emergency treatment, Baduku reported one student’s unfortunate death as a result of the incident. While unable to confirm the exact number of injuries, he emphasized the severity of the situation and the urgent need for medical assistance for the affected students.
