The Kogi State Government has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of unfairly targeting the former Governor of the state, Yahaya Bello. They are demanding clarity from the EFCC on why they are persistently pursuing and publicly criticizing Bello when there is no evidence of missing funds. The government insists that the allegations against Bello are baseless and politically motivated, orchestrated by individuals aiming to tarnish his reputation.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, the government expressed disappointment in the EFCC’s actions and called on President Bola Tinubu to investigate the situation in Kogi State. They emphasized their commitment to transparency and accountability since 2016 and urged those with personal grievances to address them without implicating the entire state.
The government affirmed its respect for law enforcement agencies and its dedication to combating corruption, aligning with the national anti-corruption efforts. They urged for fair treatment and cautioned against allowing political agendas to influence law enforcement actions.
