Children Killed in Bauchi Fire, Suspected Thief Burned

Two tragic incidents have rocked Bauchi, as two children lost their lives in a fire incident, while a suspected motorcycle thief was lynched by a mob in separate events. According to the Bauchi State Police Command spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, the fire incident occurred on Sunday in the Madina area of Bauchi, claiming the lives of two siblings, 8-year-old Zainab Bashir Mohammed and 5-year-old Ummu Salma Bashir Mohammed, who were trapped in the flames and burnt beyond recognition. Upon receiving the distress call, police officers and the Federal Fire Service rushed to the scene, but sadly, they were unable to save the children.

In another distressing incident, a suspected motorcycle thief was set ablaze by a mob at Magamar Gumau Market in Toro Local Government Area. Wakil condemned the act of jungle justice and stated that an investigation had commenced to apprehend the perpetrators. The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Auwal Musa, has ordered a discreet investigation into the matter and vowed to bring the culprits to justice.

The police spokesperson emphasized the importance of upholding the law and denounced acts of vigilantism. He urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead cooperate with law enforcement agencies. Wakil reiterated that suspects should be handed over to the police for proper investigation and prosecution rather than being subjected to extrajudicial violence.
