Boko Haram raids Yobe military base, resulting in the death of a soldier

In the dead of Saturday night, suspected Boko Haram militants launched a brazen assault on a military base situated in Gujba town, within Yobe State’s Gujba Local Government Area. Tragically, one soldier lost his life during the attack. According to DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, the assailants also set fire to a military patrol vehicle before being driven off by responding troops.

Eyewitness accounts from reliable local sources detail how the suspected insurgents descended upon Gujba under the cover of darkness, unleashing a barrage of gunfire as they targeted the military installation. Despite their initial onslaught, the militants were eventually repelled by the swift and decisive response of the troops, who pursued them into the surrounding bushland.

Residents of Gujba recount harrowing experiences of the night’s events, with Modu Bahna describing the chaos as the assailants terrorized the town. Thankfully, civilian casualties were avoided, and the attackers showed no interest in looting essential supplies. However, the assault resulted in the tragic loss of a soldier’s life, underscoring the ongoing threat posed by extremist elements in the region. According to Abdulkarim, the police spokesperson, the engagement between the troops, civilian joint task force (CJTF), and the suspected terrorists underscores the ongoing efforts to maintain security in the area.
