The Nigerian Navy has finalized plans to relocate its Naval Training Command headquarters from Lagos to Onne in Rivers State. Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff, made this announcement during a visit to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, along with other top Navy officials at Government House, Port Harcourt.
Describing the Navy and Rivers State as inseparable entities, Ogalla outlined the purpose of his visit, which included the graduation of civilians trained at the Basic Training School in Onne to join the Nigerian Navy as ratings. He expressed gratitude to the Rivers State government for donating schools to the Navy and informed the governor of the relocation plan, highlighting the renovation of the Ambassador Nne Krukrubo Model Secondary School in Eleme as the new headquarters location.
Ogalla also commended the Navy’s recent achievements in combating maritime crimes, particularly crude oil theft, following the launch of Operation Delta Sanity in January 2024. He reported the arrest of 14 vessels transporting stolen crude oil and emphasized the significant improvement in maritime security due to these operations.
Governor Fubara commended the Navy’s efforts and encouraged them to remain steadfast in combating economic sabotage in the nation’s waterways, pledging continued support from the state government. He expressed satisfaction with the positive outcomes achieved by the Navy in Rivers State and reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaboration in ensuring maritime security.
