The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action to safeguard public health by banning the sale of Turkey-made Dex Luxury Bar Soap and warning against counterfeit Tandak injection powder manufactured in India.
Dex Luxury Bar Soap, found to contain Butyphenyl Methylpropional, a substance prohibited in cosmetic products due to its potential risks to reproductive health and skin sensitization, has been prohibited by NAFDAC. The agency highlighted that the product’s non-compliance with the Cosmetic Products Regulation prompted regulatory authorities in the EU to ban its marketing.
NAFDAC emphasized the importance of vigilance within the supply chain, urging importers, distributors, retailers, healthcare professionals, and consumers to exercise caution and report any suspicions of counterfeit products. The agency outlined distinguishing features between the original and counterfeit Tandak injection powder, including batch numbers, hologram presence, and cap color.
Additionally, NAFDAC disclosed the discovery of counterfeit Tandak injection powder in Gombe State, alerting the public to potential risks associated with its use. The agency emphasized the importance of administering such medications under the supervision of healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective treatment.
